Italian Regional Cuisine - Island of Sicily
A Regional Foods Class
Sicilian cuisine is a unique blending of the many civilizations that have passed through the Island. Sicilian dishes are some of the most complex and colorful in Italy, and our menu highlights some Sicilian favorites. Sfincione (or Sicilian Pizza) is different from the pizza we know. The dough is allowed to rise a bit before it goes into the oven and the ingredients are pressed into it to be discovered within, not on top of the dough. Arancine are delicious risotto balls stuffed with meat or cheese.
Sicily is renowned for its seafood, and sweet, mild Cod is perfectly suited for the bold flavors of the manila clams, potatoes and olives in the main course. The wines from Sicily are as rich and robust as the food. For an extra $20.00, our Sommelier, has paired a 2008, La Cala, Vermentino di Sardegna to go with the Sfincione, a 2008 Planeta La Segreta IGT to go with the Arancini and 2008 Mandra Rossa Nero d'Avola to go with the cod dish. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to travel with us to Sicily.
