South American Cuisine - Argentina
A Regional Foods Class
When we think of Argentina, we envision pampas, covered with huge herds of cattle that produce some of the world's best BEEF. Argentinians, lead by Celebrated Argentine Chef, Francis Mallmann, are famous for their grilling and barbecue techniques resulting in mouthwatering dishes. But what about Patagonia where lamb, fresh water fish, and wild game abound? The cuisine is also heavily influenced by the large influx of Europeans, in particular the French, Italian, and Germans. Lunch is the most important meal of the day. Most cities close during midday so people can return home to enjoy a large meal and rest (sounds like a great idea). Meats, pastas, breads, fresh fruits and vegetables are very important ingredients of hearty Argentinian cuisine.
Guest Chef Patricia Belaire (who is from Argentina) has created an exciting menu, incorporating some of Chef Mallman's famous grilling ideas. You will start by preparing Empanadas de Carne Mendocinas (Beef Empanadas). Next, mouthwatering Bife de Ternera Con Chimichurri (Steak with Chimichurri Sauce) served with Brochettes de Vegetales y Pure de Batatas (Vegetable Skewers and Sweet Potato Puree). Complete your menu with Panqueques de Dulce de Leche (Dulce de Leche filled Crepes). Wine is another incredible product of Argentina. From Mendoza comes the famous Malbec wines (fabulous with BEEF).
INCLUDED in the price of the class is a flight of Argentinian wines selected to compliment your menu.
