Who has ever heard of Friuli? Not many know about this small region just north of Venice nestled in the Dolomite mountains bordering Austria.  If you went there you might not even believe you were in Italy at all (were it not for the sound of Italian being spoken). You might think you were in Germany or Austria.  The people of Fruili are hardy mountain folk and love to eat a rich diet that keeps them warm in the inhospitable climate and terrain of this region. 

From a gastronomic perspective the region has a lot to offer.  Some of the best cured hams in the world are made here.  St. Danielle and smoked Speck ham.  Tons of wild game, Montasio cheese, polenta, crisp white wines and breathtaking Grappa.
